Tobin, Lake of the Weekend

The wife and I spent three days up at Tobin Lake this past weekend. Mom and Dad bought us a two night stay at one of the Geodesic Domes for Christmas. The first picture in the link, with the bed, is the one we stayed in. It's about double the size of the other two. It's split into the half with the window wall that is the bedroom, then kind of a common area on the other half. Above that half is also a balcony with two beds. It's only good for kids as I had to crawl to get to the second bed just to check it all out.

The only cooking comes from a BBQ outside. And a fire pit I guess, but there's a fire ban on right now. Besides that there is a small gazebo so you can seal yourself off from the mosquitos. Of which there were plenty.

The whole thing is powered by solar that feeds a power pack. We left the fan running all day on our second day and it died about an hour after bed time. So, we suffered.

The first day we got there it was an oven inside. It has hardwood floors and they left the curtains open. I walked on the floor with bare feet at one point and it was hot enough to be painful. High 30's temperature plus this made it super hot. The next two days we left the curtains closed and it was only low 30's so was more manageable. We spent a lot of time in the gazebo that day and then the second evening and the final morning in the dome just because the mosquitos were so bad. It was a constant cloud around our heads. Plus we were constantly picking ticks off ourselves and the dogs.

I can usually deal with a lot of mosquitos to enjoy the outdoors but they were too bad for me. Plus with that heat it kinda ruined the weekend a little. The only time Capone stopped panting was when we took him down to the boat dock to jump in the cold water.

I shouldn't say ruined the weekend though. It was still a really good weekend and I'd suggest it to anyone. It was relaxing and the bed/dome were very comfortable. Owners were really nice as well. Nature was just a bit against us. We figured late May? Should be warm days and cool nights. The fact that it snowed two weeks before just confirmed that. Snowing two weeks ago. Almost 40C two weeks later. Fucking Saskatchewan.

No. Fucking climate change.

Next time, I'm bringing more ice.
