Recently Spotify began running ads for ICE and the women in my life decided they’d finally had enough of Spotify and its shitbag CEO. We decided to switch.
I did the main research and it was between YouTube music and Apple Music. YouTube music would have been nice cause I could have gotten premium with it and not had commercials when I watch videos, but in the end we decided on Apple Music since it just seemed a little better from reviews.
Transferring playlists was fairly painless. They have an option for it but you have to copy your whole liked songs playlist to another in order to get that one. Other than that all my music is there. In fact, there are a lot of bands I hand started following while doing the Cockpit but when I switched to Spotify, liking their bands just never got done. Those bands are in my list still.
The UI isn’t as good as Spotify on the whole. Of I scroll down to a band I like, it’s doing it in my library. If I then open an album that has a song I favourited, it only shows that song until I scroll down and select the option to show the complete album.
So the search function on the home page gets relied on for me. It also doesn’t work with my Google speakers as well. I can ask it to play music and it works, but just from my library or a specific artist/album. With Spotify there was an option in the app next to the play button to cast the music to the speakers. Nice and easy. Apple Music doesn’t have that option. I have to Bluetooth to the speakers which means it’s not gonna get done often.
I don’t know if it’ll play a specific playlist I have so I need to test that and see of I should make a cooking playlist, but it doesn’t work for my favourites.
Mostly I just need to get used to stuff and in the end it won’t matter.
And I know we could sit here and discuss whether or not Spotify really is worse than Apple or Google or if they just hide it better, but I don’t think there is a good answer to that question either way. Plus Spotify has been getting worse since they fired everyone for AI a few years back so whatever.
In hindsight I should have tried out the YouTube music app before deciding but whatever. I’m still on the free month so I still could but meh. I always put 30 minutes into research and switching my music plus the time into this blog post so that’s enough.
Especially since I’ve been writing this on my phone. I forgot to take my meds last night so there is no way I’m going back to proofread this bitch. Good lick, and may the force be ever in your favour.
