Papa Nurgle Exerts His Influence
As told in the annals of Pilot's World earlier this week, I was at the funeral for my grandfather on the weekend. While there, I picked up some sort of plague. Today is my first day working as I was dead the rest of the week. My nephew, Roch, pointed his finger at the Pilot's children, indicating that they may not have felt well that day. I don't know if this is true, but I'm going to blame them anyway. Our sister, Shanna, also came down with the sickness.
So, I was at home watching lots of YouTube and Nebula videos. My feed on Youtube is completely full of AI generated content. Just a voice reading a script with some pictures in the background. I didn't really notice it at first but when they start saying one-thousand nine-hundred and forty-two instead of 1942 in a war video, it's obvious. When they say Gen-E-stealers instead of Genestealers in a Warhammer video, it's obvious.
I don't mind AI generated stuff, to a point. This stuff is obviously ripped off from somewhere else and the person making the money has done very little work. One of my favorites, Legal Eagle (who is also on Nebula, thankfully), recently put out a video detailing the difficulties he had getting a bunch of imposter channels removed from YouTube. Someone was reuploading his videos and just changing the thumbnail. They used his name and everything. Plus, some videos that were demonetized for him, weren't for the imposter.
After a bunch of trouble, he finally got it all removed, but it is all making one thing clear. If you want quality, you have to pay for it, and keep it small. Most people don't pay YouTube anything and can get a lot of garbage in their feed. On Nebula, there is a much smaller selection but I at least know everyone on there is doing their best work and is a real person.
A platform as big as YouTube or Spotify just can't be policed properly. It's too big. I imagine this could help fix some issues with social media as well but for the most part social media isn't worth paying for and needs connections that a payment scheme would ruin.
I've looked at something like Ground News that I see advertised online that says how left or right leaning news sources are. It would be handy but it would also be good to have something like that for YouTube. Is it AI? Is it a copy of someone else? Etc.
Maybe I'll get some AI to program that for me.

The worst thing about Spotify is I DO PAY for it and yet the company has chosen to make AI generated content part of their business plan. I'm pretty close to dropping them entirely. I'll miss my playlists.
And yeah - Jonas has been down with the plague. I've avoided getting sick but I've had a nasty earache all week.
