Music History

I like music. I don't generally try to hide this. When there are bands or people I like, often I will look into their history a little bit. I usually don't do a deep dive but when a video about Boston comes on YouTube, I'll bite.

I never knew it, but the first Boston album, and their best, was started by one guy in his basement putting electronics together in his spare time. All he cared about was quality. He wanted everything to sound grand like a big concert. Once a few people heard the start of what he was putting together he got a contract and the rest of the band together. They tried to make him go into a studio but he refused.

And that was a good choice.

I've actually come upon a few lately that surprised me. A few years ago I found out that ZZ Top started out touring the USA pretending to be a British one hit wonder. Once they were discovered, they just played their own music.

Or more recently, I watched a video about how the guys from CCR are still suing each other. This isn't that crazy except for the fact that CCR really only had three good years. That's simplifying it a bit but to still be going after each other at this point. Move on! Most bands at this point limit themselves to just bad mouthing each other.

Just another one of the reasons I'm glad I don't make a living playing music. That and my hatred of being on stage.

Another one! The Beatles got their name from an alien named Cosmo! No, wait. Or was it that John Lennon WAS an alien named Cosmo? Both?

Any other bands that have those wild facts that nobody really thinks about. It's not even that they are hidden. We just don't look for them.

I thought I posted a comment but it's clearly not there so I'll try and reproduce it.

I always liked the weird fact that Lemmy was a roadie for Hendrix. And yeah I remember mom telling me about Boston being one guy when I was young and that was a bit mind blowing back then. Of course these days, everyone records albums in their bedroom.
