New Year, New Me
I'm getting a full body and brain transplant from a fellow named Porcupine McSandwich.
Nah, I'm just kidding. I can't afford that.
Been catching up on music this last week. Without listening to music at work my listening slows down. I finally got rid of the Christmas music suggestions yesterday. Over the Christmas holidays I started watching some YouTube videos on pedals, which is majorly fucking dangerous for my wallet. The ones I got into were from JHS pedals. Sounds like good pedals but I also liked how he would explain why certain old circuits aren't just better (Similar to the digital vs. vinyl debate. Not better, just different) and he'd also show how to use the pedals. And not just his own. He's a pedal lover and creates these ones cause he loves other pedals as much as I love my tuner, which I will likely be buried with, but that's another topic.
I've said for years I'd love to make one, something like a distortion is super easy by all accounts, but who knows when I ever will. One of those things where I already have a pedal so why would I need another? And some are really good like my tuner which I will likely be buried with, but that's another topic.
Historically I've been a Boss man, they're reasonably priced and I know I can beat the crap out of them and they will survive. I'll likely be buried with my tuner, but that's another topic. When I sold my Marshall one of the items on top of the cash was a pedal for a different company. I've used it so much I can't even remember what it does.
But after watching the videos I've had to ask myself, why even have pedals? I'm not good with EQ so I usually just stick to distortion which my amp has, but more than that, I don't even play my electric much. My pedals haven't been used since I moved into my house, except for the tuner, which I will likely be buried with, but that's another topic. I stick with my acoustic cause I can chase the dogs around with it.
Plus I don't play live so why do I even need a pedal? I could just use a computer or something like that. Which I have in the past. I have recently revisited the thought of getting a rack mount unit that does everything without a pedal. In the end it all comes down to if I can afford to buy that when I have so much more that I need to pay for. It's always a no, I can't afford it. And what I have now is fine, especially my tuner, which I will likely be buried with, but that's another topic.
I think I should probably get more comfortable with the pedals I have now before branching out. The most expensive pedal in the world is going to sound like shit but I know a DS-1 can sound good on an album so I should work with it more. Although I do know how to use my tuner, which I will likely be buried with, but that's another topic,

Boss recently came out with the Slicer which is an effect concept I've always wanted. But at $250 I just don't have an excuse.
I still have my big GT-10 B multi effect pedal but I find it so cumbersome.
I should buy a better tuner. But that's another topic.
