Lazy Dayz

I sit here at home, looking outside at the fresh snow, and am glad that I am currently between jobs. My last day at Concept Plus was Wednesday and I start at Mainstay on Monday. That means two days off! WOOOOOOOOO!!!!

I did some running around yesterday but today is strictly a stay at home and be lazy day. Play a bunch of video games, watch some YouTube, and wonder why my keyboard keeps pushing up when I type. Ghosts, maybe? I'll say ghosts.

One of my errands yesterday was finally cleaning out the Mitsubishi and saying goodbye. I won't miss it that much. I'll still have payments for a little while to remind me of it. I managed to convince SGI to give me an extra 200 bucks which I'll take. Honestly more than I expected. Dealing with them was pretty good. I had a couple minor annoyances but they were the same ones you get everywhere. Not reading my entire email and missing a part is just what happens with emails.

We've decided to stick with one car, at least until I've finished paying off the loan. I'll still owe around 3K so it won't take too long. We don't normally need two cars though. It's very nice to have, but not necessary. The biggest issue is that my wife can't be on time to leave for work so she's always on time, but I'm not. That's very annoying. I think the new place will let me start at 8:30 though so I'll do that if I can and just not tell Daniella. Mwahahahaha!

The Subaru is also more expensive than our previous two cars put together but is much nicer to drive and will be way better in the winter. I never really paid attention to how cars drive or how well they are made until I started watching Top Gear many years ago. They talked about how many American cars have a cheap feeling to the plastic and you can wiggle the steering wheel A LOT without it doing anything to the car moving. I think the plastic has gotten better over the years, at least for the upper car models, but the steering is still loosey goosey.

I never really paid attention to the steering till I had my Tacoma and yeah, it just steered better than our American work trucks. With the Subaru being able to steer to keep itself in a lane, that steering has to be tight. Maybe auto-steer American cars have finally improved that. You can't have the computer trying to make micro steers and nothing happening. Or maybe you can. I'm not a car designer.

But I guess the whole point I'm tryin' to make here is

I hate sauerkraut

That's all I'm really tryin' to say
And, by the way, if one day you happen to wake up
And find yourself in an existential quandary
Full of loathing and self-doubt
And wracked with the pain and isolation of your pitiful meaningless existence
At least you can take a small bit of comfort in knowing that
Somewhere out there in this crazy ol' mixed-up universe of ours
There's still a little place called Albuquerque

The thought of American cars being generally cheaper brings to mind a recent observation I had of a Tesla commercial. So Teslas are pretty famous for panels that don't line up correctly. Like from what I hear the construction is just a bit lazy and lacks quality control.

I was surprised to recently see some advertisements for the Tesla Model Y on YouTube. There was a time that Tesla famously wouldn't do advertising, mostly they were just relying on Elon's cult of personality to market the cars. Clearly his - ahem - decision making in 2025 must be having an effect on that marketing strategy. But what I found most interesting was that they weren't promoting it's range or speed or power. Nope. It has an indirectly lit tail light.

Really?

They do expand on other features but none of them feel like we're talking about a car anymore. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iPJDW5EaIzE) I suppose it's kinda how we have this device in our pockets that we call a "phone" but in reality, the phone is maybe one of the least accessed features of the device.

I just don't think Jeremy Clarkson cares about having a touch screen or folding seats.
