Changes
Whelp, I did it. I accepted a new job at Mainstay Engineers and Owner Reps. Mo' money, mo' time off. It's not a massive change in what I am doing but will be back to the industrial side of things that I am more used to.
And speaking of changes, how about that music streaming? I originally switched over back when Pilot and I were doing a radio show on 91.3 FM CJTR called *checks notes" The Cockpit? That can't be right. Anyway, buying and album or 3 each week to play on the show was getting very expensive so we both ended up switching to Spotify. I've been happy with it since. I'm still happy with the product. Sure there are minor issues like songs randomly leaving my liked list, but for the most part, I'm happy.
As more comes out about how artists make even less that they did with physical media and AI is increasingly sneaking in, I keep thinking that maybe it's time to go back to Bandcamp. This means having to buy any albums from the last +5 years that I still want though. Yeah, I won't buy all that I've listened too, but there are still enough that it would take way to much for me, or most people, to move off of streaming.
Not to mention that the one subscription gets music for three people in my house. So, they'd either still be paying for Spotify or we'd need to buy their music as well. So, what's the solution here?
I think artists have to increasingly realize they aren't going to make money on music. It's always been that tours and mostly merch are what make them money and that's truer than ever. I don't want to say stop fighting for it, but they will likely never win the battle to get decent money from recorded music.
If I like a band, I should just go buy a shirt. Or a sock. Unless you have a better idea?

I've been debating my use of Spotify too. Not just the artist pay or.the investing in AI weapons stuff. I miss the chase for.music. It's almost too.convemient. Music doesn't feel special.
