It All Averages Out in the Wash (Or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Just Ramble)

Really! It does! Pilot was a day early with his blog this week so I'm a day late. Therefore we were both exactly on time. Or something.

Yeah, yeah. OK. I was late again. And I don't even have an excuse this time. I took Thursday and Friday off since Thursday was my two year anniversary so Friday I was mostly just sitting on my butt.

But I at least managed one useful thing yesterday. I bought us a window A/C. We could finally sleep in this >30 degree heat. Our bedrooms are on the third floor of our place and as you walk up the stairs you can feel it getting hotter and hotter. It also gets extremely hot in our room with two humans and three dogs. We can't leave our room door open or else the cat and dogs will fight fight fight! We let Belle leave hers open so Lexi can roam the house at night. She's usually trapped upstairs so it's only fair to let her prowl.

Last night we just left the thing on full blast and I was way too cold when I woke up and it was wonderful. Just going to let it run all day during this heat wave. I know the A/Cs are part of what is causing the planetary warming but not having an A/C isn't going to fix it. There are other things we need to do instead. Like not burning shit or something like that.

Our unit is the only one in our entire block without an A/C. The built our duplex first and then before the built the rest they changed the specs to add it and gave the owners of these two a chance to add it to theirs. The other one did, ours did not. Aside from our ceiling fan, we have six fans in this house that just run all summer. I probably could have bought another window A/C for the price of all those.

I was watching a video about heat pumps the other day and the guy put forward a good point about them. They are literally just A/Cs with the ability to reverse. So you can set them to cool the house as well, and since most people want that already, it just makes sense to buy a heat pump instead of an A/C to help offset some of that heating bill. The only issue is that most people don't know that so the HVAC companies get away with charging double for a heat pump than an A/C when it is the exact same hookup to the house. Plus they add a few heat strips for when it can't keep up but none of that is worth double.

So, I guess I'm saying I should just sell heat pumps for slightly cheaper than most but more than an A/C unit and make bank! Or just hook them all up to my house until the windows are so frosty I can't see out of them and just enjoy the coooooollll.

Heat pumps are an amazing technology that just hasn't been accepted the way they should. I suppose if we start using low-energy technology that's easily fixed, those poor fossil fuel sellers will go broke. No one likes to see a poor oil man!
